Wedding With A View

I imagine it must be nice to get married at the top of the Empire State Building. But same day and relatively same time as 13 other couples? Maybe not so much.

That's what happened this Valentine's Day at the Empire State Building, marking the 17th year this event has taken place. This "Win a Wedding" contest has been sponsored by The Knot for the past seventeen years now, with the grand prize consisting
not only of a wedding on top of the building, but a honeymoon to the Bahamas (over 100 couples applied!)

The grand prize winner had the opportunity to have their ceremony on the 86th floor - the other 13 had their ceremonies on the 61st floor "in a makeshift wedding chapel festooned with lavender drapes...that followed one another with brisk efficiency." See pictures of the event here.

To have a wedding paid for I'm sure is every bride & grooms dream - but to sacrifice a private, non-rushed ceremony without the choice of theme/color (everyone had lavender). They could also only invite up to 20 guests.

The selection process was based on the couples story on how they met, why they want to get married and what their connection is to the Empire State Building. You can check out every couples story here.

Would you be able to plan / execute your ideal wedding with this situation? Is this something that you would participate in , given the opportunity?

Eventfully Yours,
Megan

  1. How impersonal - not sure I could go through with it. Plus, my family is FAR too large to be normal - so a max of 20 guests would never work!
